Sculpting in -35 weather

C was out yesterday helping on an ice sculpture for this year's Fire & Ice Carnival. Last year she and our friends, Dauminique and Kevin, and their son, Dylan, sculpted a polar bear sitting on an iceberg, a design that we submitted as a group and was selected by the carnival organizers. They toiled in -30 weather for 2 days to get it ready in time. Needless to say, they didn't have a great time. The sculpture looked great but C swore up and down that she would never do that again.

So this year she did it again.

Ship ahoy!

C was commissioned by the festival organizers to build a sculpture of Tom Sukanen's ship. After last year's harrowing experience, C was going to turn it down. But a sculptor friend of hers, Jesse Goddard, offered to sculpt it for her. So after coming to an agreement on how to share the money and credit, she accepted.

WeatherNetwork.com reported that it was -35 at noon yesterday, no windchill factor but they did say there was a 9 KPH wind coming from the south. Although Jesse worked on the ship until 5, C only stayed out for a couple hours. I thought she was crazy to stay even that long. At least Jesse had proper Arctic gear on, C only had long johns and several layers of clothing.

Yes that's ice on her eye lashes.

The Fire & Ice Carnival kicks off tomorrow, which coincides with the Olympic torch relay coming through Regina on its way to Vancouver for the Winter Games in February. Cool!

Until next time... stay warm... and adventure!

Insanity! You need one of those survival suits that Kirk had when the Enterprise was trapped in the Tholian Web.

If it's good enough for James T., it's good enough for me.
